About Chandodivākara

Chandodivākara is an interactive visualization of over 400 Sanskrit metres (chandas) using a semicircular sunburst chart. Each concentric layer represents longer patterns of syllables, built incrementally from the center outward.

Each node shows a pattern of G (guru or long vowels) and L (laghu or short vowels). Named metres appear in red, while unnamed patterns are in yellow. Patterns closer to the center are shorter; nodes farther out represent longer sequences.

  • Hover over a node to see its name, length (jāti), pattern, and yati.
  • Click a node to expand all patterns starting with that sequence, exploring the subtree visually.
  • Use the input box to find metres matching your text. An exact match is highlighted in green; other patterns are shaded from red (least similar) to black (most similar).
  • Input can be typed in Devanāgarī, IAST, or as a string of Gs and Ls.
  • Use the slider to adjust the maximum length of metres to focus your analysis.

Explore the chart to see relationships between metres, discover patterns, and understand the structure of Sanskrit poetic metres visually.
